TOP FIVE: SOUNDTRACKS THAT HIT ME IN MY NOSTALGIC FEELS

Writer: Kerri-Ann SeredinskyKerri-Ann Seredinsky

The thing about me is that I am a sucker for nostalgia. Seriously, I seek out this feeling wherever I go, and I'll rewatch my comfort movies or spin my favorite records time and time again. There's nothing that brings me that feeling like music does, and I'm sure that's why I ended up in this industry. As soon as I hear an old favorite song, I'm immediately transported back to the time and place I first heard it. So, what better way to get to know me than to check out a few of my favorite soundtracks?!

AMERICAN PIE

I find myself referencing American Pie (or teen party movies like this) quite often in my life because their soundtracks quite literally are made up of what I believe to be the quintessential pop-punk that shaped my music taste today. blink-182 was and still is my favorite band of all time, and "Mutt" is an underrated song that I'm glad got some attention in this movie! I love these movies and their soundtrack so much that I even made my own playlist for it on Spotify.

CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN

Similar to American Pie - this film had some OG pop-punk hits in it! This may have been the first time I heard the songs "I'm Just a Kid" and "In Too Deep" now that I think about it. Also huge shoutout to Hillary Duff. I know her music isn't part of the soundtrack, but she will always be a special part of my childhood. Her album Most Wanted was one of the first CD's I played on my blue boombox.

ONE TREE HILL

Where do I even begin with this one? This is one of my all-time favorite shows that basically defined my pre-teen and adolescent years. The soundtrack has a little bit of everything from Sheryl Crow and Maroon 5 to Fall Out Boy and Angels & Airwaves. As an avid Tom Delonge and Pete Wentz stan, it's no surprise this fell into my top 5 list. I also will always have a soft spot for Tyler Hilton. I mean him and Bethany Joy Lenz could not have sounded better together on "When The Stars Go Blue."

PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

The music in this movie screams melancholia to me, and it definitely brings out my emo side. It's also one of my favorite books of all time, and I loved that the author, Stephen Chbosky, brought playlists into the actual story. I'll always have a soft spot for "Asleep" by The Smiths and "Vapour Trail" by Ride.

RENT

I know, I know - technically, this was a play before it was a film... but I'm still counting it as a movie soundtrack because the 2005 film was unmatched. I recently had a conversation with an old coworker on this soundtrack because they did not understand how "One Song Glory" could be my favorite song. But let it be known, after they gave it another listen they couldn't get enough of it. Other favorites of course include: "What You Own," "La Vie Boheme," and last but certainly not least - ""Seasons of Love."

If you haven’t already, shoot me a follow at  @hudson.hits on IG! This will be home to all of my music-related rants, playlist creations, concert footage, and more  When I’m not meandering neighborhoods throughout the Hudson Valley, I’m probably busy curating another Spotify playlist (seriously, I can't stop - I'm at 85+). More to come on all of that very soon.
